Jargon CBT - Compulsory Basic Training. The clue to this one is in the name, everyone has to complete a CBT to validate the provisional entitlement on their licence. The course is aimed at the complete novice. The CBT gives you a basic understanding of motorcycle skills, it lets you ride on L plates but you can't take a pillion or go on a motorway and it has a life of 2 years. If you don't pass a motorcycle test in this time you need to retake the CBT course.

We run CBT on Saturdays and Sundays. You can use our bikes, or if you have bought a bike you can use your own. This makes the course cheaper and gives you a better understanding of your new bike. It is your responsibility to get it to us though! CBT usually can be completed in one day, but some people need a bit more time, this is charged at £20 per hour for an additional road ride which is 2 hours long. If more time is needed off road this price may vary. Just ask when you book to come back! The course price includes the use of any equipment you might need i.e. helmet, gloves and waterproofs. When you book a course we will give you a check list of what you must supply (stout footwear, your licence and a sense of humour!). CBT includes advice on kit so you may consider waiting before you buy any. If you are going to do a CBT it is strongly advised that you read a current version of the Highway Code before the course. If you are a car driver and haven't looked at it for some time, you will be amazed at how much it has changed. Also the DSA's (Driving Standards Agency) books, “Official Motorcycling CBT, Theory & Practical Test” and “Motorcycle Riding the Essential Skills”, are fantastic reference books too, if a little dull!
