If you are under 21, you can only take your test on a 125cc bike, which will restrict you to 33bhp for 2  years. After which you can ride any bike.

If you are 21 or over, you can do a DAS (Direct Access Scheme) test on a larger bike (over 47bhp) and get an unrestricted licence from the outset.

When you book on a course that ends with a practical test you will be given an information pack that details the test syllabus, the most common errors to be avoided a recommended reading list and advice on the pre-ride bike maintenance and post ride pillion questions that the examiner will ask you.

At the end of each lesson you will be given a sheet detailing your progress and your last days lesson prior to the test will include a mock test.  What we’re trying to say is by the time you go for test you will be bloody brilliant on a bike and should stand every chance of passing first time.

After CBT (Compulsory Basic Training)
If you decided to take a full test on a 125cc because of your age or because you are happy to be restricted to 33bhp for a couple of years, then you should consider one of our Category A courses.

Depending on your personal experience a course can be as short as one day, but it could last much longer. We won’t send you for test unless you stand an excellent chance of passing. You can do your lessons on your own bike if you prefer but be aware that not all sports 125cc's are suitable for the test. Call us if you have a query.

You can take a Category A test on either a geared or automatic (scooter) bike, but this will be shown on your licence. You will be restricted to this just the same as you would with automatic cars. The DSA allows ATBs to train at a ratio of 4 to 1 on 125 lessons - but we only train at a ratio of 2 to 1 because although we could make loads more money we couldn’t possibly give the individual attention you deserve. Most ATBs use 125 lessons as training grounds for their novice instructors but we only use fully DAS qualified instructors because the test is exactly the same apart from the bike used.

DAS (Direct Access Scheme)
Just want to get on with it and ride a big bike huh? Then this is the one for you, we instruct on a ratio of 2 to 1 (or 1 to 1 if you prefer, but may cost a bit extra) and currently concentrates on using the test centres in St. Albans, Pinner and Hendon (you see, not all test centres do bike tests!). If you prefer to take your test elsewhere, this is no problem as we know most test centres and they are all very fair.

DAS courses normally start on a 125cc bike, but will then be tailored to your experience and ability. Courses can run from 2 to 5 days or longer. All fees include fuel, insurance, bike, helmet, gloves and waterproof hire. The only thing we go “dutch” on is... the coffee stops!

All of our courses include the use of helmets, gloves, waterproof clothing and high visibility jackets. Please remember that it’s not practical for us to supply footwear. If you have your own kit, then please feel free to make use of it.

If you turn up with that fifteen year old helmet that you got at a boot sale we can show you how to make a lovely hanging basket from it.
